Root Canal Treatment
When a cavity has gotten very deep that it has reached the “nerve” of the tooth called the pulp, bacteria will have already infected it, with or without the patient actually feeling any pain or swelling on it. Trauma, such as bumping the tooth on a sports accident, is also a likely cause of death of the pulp, leading to infection. In order to clear this up, the chamber inside the tooth that houses the nerve (pulp) will have to be cleaned and disinfected, then sealed from the inside so that the infection can’t go back in through the roots. The tooth will also need a seal from the outside for the same reason. A crown is an ideal treatment if a big portion of the tooth was lost due to a large cavity, while other options are available if that is not the case.
